The Great Firewall in Beijing monitors the entire Chinese web (platforms such as Google, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter are blocked in China) and when it finds something that does not comply with the Party’s guidelines, it censors. The most used application is WeChat, a messaging app very similar to WhatsApp but which contains a series of “mini programs” essential to Chinese life: WeChat is connected to your credit card and to pay just scan the QR code at the checkout of a store. On WeChat you can book tickets for trains, planes, hotels, taxis and even show that you are negative about Covid. For this reason, having your WeChat account blocked could be mafan, problematic.
