The latest AI annoyance: they write a book and the man has to review it

The key question of our times was asked in the magazine Idler the psychotherapist Mark Vernon: if machines are used to save us time, how come using them makes us feel more stressed? It applies to every type of device: from pressing notifications on your smartphone to the infinite catalog of Netflix or Disney +, with the relative impossibility of using them in full; from the voluntary enchainment in front of the PC screen to the whole range of things that artificial intelligence enjoins us to do, in the subtle form of an offer of help or an original idea. The task of machines now seems to have become to make us think about what we weren’t thinking about.
