The former 5S Battelli signs up for +Europa: “Because it’s a cool party”

From the party of Cricket to that of Emma Bonino. Sergio Battelli, who left the 5 Star Movement last October, joined +Europe. The announcement came from the person concerned who has two legislatures in the Chamber behind him in his career and a past as president of the European Affairs commission in Montecitorio. “I joined @piueuropa – writes Battelli on social networks – A small party, but with very very clear ideas, far from compromises, far from ambiguities, true, radical, truly progressive and innovative. I decided to lend a hand, to enter on tiptoe with respect and self-sacrifice, do you know why? Because Più Europa is cool, it speaks to young people for young people, looks to the future to improve it, with respect for the past”.

Battelli entered politics in 2013 with the 5S and then moved on to the Civic Commitment of Louis DiMaio in June of last year. In an interview released in October a Republic, the former Ligurian parliamentarian had declared that he “wanted to disconnect” from politics for a while and, always a great music lover, had confessed his future goals: “First the reunion of the youth band, then open a chiringuito on the beach “. A farewell to politics that evidently lasted a few months, considering Battelli’s move to Più Europa.

The announcement on social media

In his long post Battelli recalls that “More Europe has always fought for rights, true, real, the fight against inequality, the fight for equity, against corporations that destroy competition, against those who want to go back and deprive us of our freedom, fight for a free and regulated cannabis, responsibility, environmental protection, protection of the weakest, promotion of diversity.Then Europe, a progressive and federal, democratic Union, a Union of European peoples, concrete, real, not a hybrid like the current one that demonstrates and has demonstrated all its ambiguities. I’ve always liked all of this”.

Recalling his militancy in the 5 Star Movement of Joseph Conte, Battelli observes: “In 10 years of Parliament I have witnessed and made myself the architect of an absurd parable: first tough opposition, then compromises, biting toads for the good of the majority, distorted programs and ideals in which I believed thrown to the flames in honor of the ‘stability’ At that moment it had to be done”. And he admits: “In all this mess of my life, however, I want to do politics out of passion, really do it with those who think like me. I will lend a hand as a member, as an activist: I will do what I like because more Europe is cool, of course, modern and uncompromising, because I have poisoned myself for the last 5 years with compromises, ambiguities, twists and turns and leaps in the dark. Now I want to be clear”.

The reactions

The party secretary greeted Battelli’s landing in Più Europa, Riccardo Magi. “In Parliament – he says – despite being part of a group far from ours, he was close to Più Europa on many battles, dealing with European Union policies for two legislatures, even as president of the Commission”. An adhesion which, according to Magi, confirms the “attractive force” of the party “proving that having clear and coherent positions, above all on civil rights, generational equality and contrast to this right-wing government, pays off”.
