The institutional signature “cannot be used to support demonstrations aimed at promoting illegal behavior”, says a note from Pisana. The reactions of the opposition and the satisfaction of Pro Vita & Famiglia, from which the complaint started

There Lazio region has revoked the patronage of the “Rome Pride 2023” scheduled for next Saturday. Even if the Lazio council “reaffirms its commitment to civil rights – underlines the institution – , as evidenced, moreover, by the multi-year work of the president Francesco Rocca“, the institutional signature of the Lazio Region “cannot, nor will it ever be used to support demonstrations aimed at promote illegal behaviorwith specific reference to the practice of so-called surrogate uterus”.

The decision to revoke the patronage “became necessary and inevitable following the affirmations, tones and intentions contained in the manifesto of the event entitled ‘Queersistence’, which can be consulted publicly on the event website. These affirmations violate the conditions explicitly required for the granting of patronage previously granted in good faith by the Lazio Region”. And also “in the light of what was declared by Mario Colamarino, president of the Mario Mieli Club and spokesperson for Roma Pride”.

In fact, Colamarino said during the day: “We appreciate that the Region has decided to escape the trap of ideological prejudices, effectively distancing itself politically from those in Parliament these days who would like to make the birth of our daughters and sons a universal crime, pursuing the gestation for others even if carried out abroad”.

“The revocation of sponsorship is a shame. Pro Vita orders and politics executes”, accuses the Pride spokesman, after the Region’s about-face. “Suddenly they saw the political document on our platform and decided to withdraw their patronage. It happened after Pro Vita launched posts on social media asking for the withdrawal of support for the demonstration”.

The reactions

“The revocation of the patronage of Pride in Rome by the Lazio Region is a serious act – he says Cecilia D’Elia, Senator Pd -, a step backwards in terms of the commitment of rights, the fight against discrimination. It is useless to agitate the specter of gpa, Pride has always been the moment in which the LGBTQ+ community shows itself with all the pride of its battles for full citizenship, starting with the dutiful recognition of the rights of girls and boys of rainbow families” . For Emanuela Droghei, regional councilor and vice president of the Budget Commission alla Pisana, “the decision of the Lazio Region to revoke the patronage of Rome Pride is inexplicable. The center-right, once again, unfortunately confirms its unshakable position on rights and inclusion. To govern, it is necessary to have the courage to make choices and displease someone, even within one’s own party, in order to do the right thing for many citizens who are still waiting to see their rights recognised”.

“The rented uterus has nothing to do with it, the alleged illegal behavior referred to by the Giunta has nothing to do with it: the revocation of the patronage of Rome Pride by the Lazio Region demonstrates once again that with Fratelli d’Italia at government homophobia is institutionalized, it is a state homophobia,” he says the secretary of Più Europa Riccardo Magi. It is “a choice with a clear obscurantist flavor. A will, that of the Region, which is not surprising but which leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The umpteenth sign of civil rights being attacked”, he writes in a note Flavia De Gregorio, group leader of the Calenda List Mayor in the Capitoline Assembly.

Instead, he expressed satisfaction Jacopo Coghe, spokesman for the non-profit organization Pro Vita & Famiglia: “We welcome the withdrawal of the Lazio Region’s sponsorship of Gay Pride after our complaint. Indeed, supporting Pride means giving a hand to those who want to legalize surrogacy, egalitarian marriage, adoptions for same-sex couples, registry transcripts for the children of gay couples, but also legitimize gender identity, the self-id, gender projects in schools of all levels, and alias career in all educational institutions”. Pro Vita hopes that “mistakes that could cost you dearly in terms of health, well-being and respect will not be repeated of the rights of women, children, adolescents and Italian families. For our part, we will continue to carefully monitor every administrative and political act of the junta chaired by Rocca so that it is never a vehicle of gender and LGBT+ ideology”.
