It is important to note that even if the minimum age for registration is 13, this does not imply that all young people over the age of 13 are necessarily ready to manage their use of social media responsibly and consciously. Access to these services should be supervised by parents or guardians to ensure the safety and protection of minors online.
On 6 and 7 February last, during the Safer Internet Day, an annual event promoted by the European Commission to promote informed use of the Internet, Telefono Azzurro presented its project in the chamber of the parliamentary groups of the Chamber to raise the minimum age for registering on social networks from 14 to 16 . According to the president of the non-profit organization, Ernesto Caffo, it is a request made by the young people themselves.
