The group leader of Noi moderates in defense of the proposal: «It is normal to bring pets to the office everywhere. It would be absurd if we who make laws do not conform to their spirit”

«I believe it is unacceptable that pets can enter everywhere and cannot enter just the offices of those who write the laws, including the constitutional reform which included the protection of animals in the Constitution. Making controversy about this is really instrumental and incomprehensible ». Michaela Biancifioregroup leader of Us moderates in the Senate, owner of a rather elderly black Labrador female who runs to look after every day during her lunch break, presented a draft regulation for the access of pets to the offices of Palazzo Madama.

President Ignazio La Russa has opened an investigation and referred the evaluation to the quaestors. “I trust that on June 22, the world day of pets in the office, the new regulation will be launched”, is the hope of the senator. In fact, for Biancofiore, who has long been a member of the large intergroup that deals with animal welfare and protection, this to bring the dog (or the cat) into the Palace is a battle of civilizations.

«In many countries, bringing your pet with you to the office is considered not only normal but useful: the worker, in addition to being able to count on what I call a “blanket over his heart”, will be more productive, without the worry of having left his friend alone, as I am forced to do too. And indeed what I propose only for the working rooms of elected representatives and parliamentary employees is already foreseen in many private companies also in Italy. Making controversy about this simple proposal is instrumental. I believe the great sensitivity of President La Russa should be underlined. And many will appreciate it: in Italy there are millions of pet owners».

The proposed regulation refers to national laws and refers to the various international charters of principles, from the Council of Europe to UNESCO. Allows access of animals only in spaces “intended for the activity of parliamentary groups, senators and employees” excluding common areas, the Aula, room where commissions are held, library and refreshment areas. Assume the entrance from a different entrance from the main one of the Palace. Furthermore, according to the draft under evaluation, dogs will have to be kept on a leash, while the use of a carrier is foreseen for cats. The owners are responsible for keeping an eye on the four-legged friends at all timesto ensure that they do not get dirty and to ensure cleanliness in case it happens: in addition to the leash, in fact, it is compulsory to always have sanitary bags with you, as on the street.
