Piazza Affari starts the session well on a day in which investors’ interest will be catalysed by the US inflation data in the early afternoon. After the good performance on Tuesday 11 July, with a 0.68% increase in the main index, today the Ftse Mib is up 0.7%, bringing it back close to the highs since 2008 set a few days ago. Paris, Frankfurt and Madrid also rose by 0.3%, while Amsterdam rose by 0.64%.

Leading the purchases on the main list are Stm (+2.5%), promoted by Jefferies and Banca Akros, Stellantis (+1.5%) and Banco Bpm which increases by 1.4% after the exclusivity granted to FSI to enter the money business. All the banks did well, with Bper (+1.2%) and Mps (+1.2%) in light while Unicredit rose by 0.8%, benefiting from the increase in the target price to 27.8 euros by Redburn . Outside the Ftse Mib runs Tod’s (+2.6%) promoted to buy by Bryan Garnier. On the other hand, Nexi (-1.1%) went against the trend, for which the race for Banco Bpm’s cards and pos did not succeed, and Campari (-1.1%), which discounts the cut in the judgment by Citi, worried by execution risks of a possible major merger.

Meanwhile, the spread between BTPs and German Bunds opens at 176 points, with the ten-year yield at 4.38%. The other European financial centers also opened positive despite Tokyo closing in the red, with the Nikkei falling by 0.81. Electronic and commercial stocks in particular dragged the main Japanese market into the red, in a context of caution. Moreover, Asia closed the session with contrasting numbers. Shanghai dropped 0.5%, Shenzhen 0.7% while Seoul rose 0.3%, Sydney 0.5% and Hong Kong 0.6%. The dollar was weak, dropping 0.2% against the euro, with which it traded at 1.103 on expectations of a softening of the monetary tightening.
