Musk announces his resignation as CEO of Twitter. And he is looking for a “fool” to take his place

The announcement, as per the classic script, came via Twitter, his social network: “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will only manage the software and server teams“, he wrote Elon Musk during the Italian night. How much truth there is in yet another twist will soon be seen, but in the meantime the owner of the platform has inaugurated a new branch of his adventures.

The decision comes a couple of days after the outcome of a poll, launched by Musk himself, always to the sound of twitter, in which he questioned users, asking: “Should I resign as head of Twitter? I will stick to the results of this poll” . 57.2 percent of the participants answered yes, out of a total – according to what the social network itself says – of over 17 million votes.

It is the umpteenth episode of the swinging Elon Musk saga, after months of negotiations, reverses and legal skirmishes, before the umpteenth second thought that led him to officially become the owner of Twitter at the end of October. On that occasion, some of the top management of the company were dismissed. Today however, as reported by rumors from the Financial Times, the role of CEO could end up in the hands of Sheryl Sandberg, former chief operating officer of Meta, with which the company greatly expanded its digital advertising share. Another name that goes around is that of Sarah FriarCEO of Nextdoor, another American platform.

In the meantime, after the controversy over verified profiles and blue ticks, the debate on freedom of expression continues on Twitter (and it is a discussion that also concerns the European Union), after Musk himself had blocked the account of a user who tracked his movements by plane. On another occasion, the founder of Tesla had instead lashed out against Anthony Fauci, asking for his indictment digitally, as he would have criminally influenced the American government in adopting measures to combat the pandemic. Measures that Musk clearly did not consider necessary.

But that is not all. Because the criticisms of Twitter’s new course have also come from Ukraine. Mykhailo Podolyak, one of Zelensky’s advisers, said last week that “War in Ukraine” has disappeared from the trends and that there has been “a radical downsizing of coverage of Russian aggression”. Previously Musk had also spent himself on an alleged peace plan which in many places seemed to follow the Kremlin’s vulgate. A controversy, the one between Kyiv and Musk, which has been going on for some time and is also linked to Starlink, the satellite system which in the early stages of the war in Ukraine proved indispensable for Ukrainian telecommunications. And it continues to be today to ensure effective coordination of troops on the battlefield. The richest man in the world had in fact said he could no longer afford to pay for those satellites, asking the Pentagon for millions of dollars.
