Italy now receives more from European funds than it gives, but hopefully not forever

Our country has become a net tutor to Brussels, and now the money it takes is more than it contributes. The resources of the Pnrr (about 10 billion) make the difference. But that’s not good news
Sooner or later it had to happen, Italy has moved from the status of net contributor to that of net recipient of European funds, which in simpler terms means becoming a country that takes more money from the European Union than it pays in as a contribution to the Community budget. The Pnrr funds make the difference. From what emerges from the Court of Auditors’ annual report on Italy/EU financial relations in 2021, the payments with which Italy participated in the European budget amount to 18.1 billion euros.
