“I want to be very clear, I’m also vice president of the EPP: any agreement with the AfD and with Mrs. Le Pen’s party is impossible for us.” Antonio Tajani, Foreign Minister and Berlusconi’s successor at the helm of Forza Italia, interviewed at Summer agora use clear words to mark the field of alliances in view of the European elections. Those of Tajani are politically relevant words, because they come after those of Matteo Salvini, who
in an interview with Courier had proposed a «written pact for the centre-right»,
inviting the allies to be “all united in Europe” and underlining his closeness to the French extreme right: “Le Pen like the League”.

«The League is something quite different. We would be happy to have the League part of a majority, but without Le Pen and Alternative Fur Deutschland», remarked Tajani. A road map, the one illustrated by Salvini, which does not seem to have pleased Tajani at all, who knows the balance between Brussels and Strasbourg well, having led the EU Parliament for a long time. For the president of FI, therefore, the path to follow remains strictly that of the EPP, that is, the one that has always been Berlusconi’s compass, without ever veering to the extreme right such as those of Le Pen in France and Afd in Germany.

The blue leader then announced that “there will be some significant entry into Forza Italia in the coming days”. In fact, the rumors in Parliament tell of some new acquisitions in the Chamber: «The future of Forza Italia is that of a large moderate force, we will be the center of Italian politics and we have an important role to play, given that the Democratic Party is now moving to the left,” he reflects. Because Forza Italia, again according to Tajani, can be “a point of reference” also for the “disappointed” of the centre-left.

As foreign minister, Tajani then explained his point of view on the war: “If we want peace we must prevent the Ukraine from being conquered.” And then: «I also hope in the role of China, which convinces Putin to bring the troops back to where they came from. It’s the only way to really make peace.”
Tajani then indicated three points necessary for a just peace, also citing the Vatican initiative led by Cardinal Don Matteo Zuppi.
«Return the children who were deported from Ukraine to Russia. A free zone should be created around the Zaporizhzhia plant. And the green corridor must be stabilized. Because if the cereals did not arrive in Africa we would have other social crises and migratory flows”.
