Giorgetti: “We need a decree on the strategic importance of Malpensa airport”

We need to think of “a decree that establishes the strategic importance of Malpensa and therefore allows us to overcome the constraints that currently prevent development”: word of the Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti who attended the provincial assembly of the Lega yesterday in Caronno Varesino . “This – he told Malpensa24 microphones – is an issue whose responsibility lies directly with the government and in particular with the Prime Minister, but I said that both myself and Minister Salvini are already working in this direction”.
This would therefore be the solution after the Ministry of the Environment approved the 2035 Masterplan of the airport at the beginning of the month but said no to the expansion of the grounds necessary to create Cargo City. «The Roman powers – Giorgetti assured in answering a question on the hypothesis that Rome wants to bury the airport – are inspired by the logic of the market today, in June 2023. And therefore, as seen on Alitalia and on Ita, it will also be seen on Malpensa which are all oriented towards consumer protection and to avoid unnecessarily dispersing public resources that Italians pay so painfully with taxes». Certainly Malpensa “is an engine of development”, beyond the choices on whether to use it or not by Ita-Lufthansa. «Malpensa has one big problem: having the freedom to operate and move around».
With the agreement between Ita and Lufthansa which, Giorgetti admitted, “still has many obstacles to overcome even in the context of European authorisation”, “the air traffic market” will be freed up and therefore “in some way also the wings at Malpensa will be freed to be able to grow”. “And this – he concluded – is our goal which joins” the “development of cargo transport at Malpensa: Malpensa must have the possibility of developing its potential, then the market exists and it will do justice”. «Each one – he concluded – will find his own vocation but the development of everything that means the development of transport at Malpensa must be protected. It is part of a more complex puzzle which however aims at the development of the national economy».
