The question was opened again by the comment of Giampaolo Rossi, new director general of state TV: “Rai is the public service that has the lowest license fee in Europe, far fewer resources than the BBC or France Television can have: therefore the investment capacity is directly proportional to the economic resources “. Words that provoked the reaction of the League: “We reiterate the commitment to reduce, up to the objective of zeroing, the Rai license fee which today is at the expense of the Italians”, reads a note from the party of Matthew Salvini.

The League has been waging a battle over the license fee for some time. The promise to abolish it was made at the Pontida rally in mid-September last year in the midst of the electoral campaign. But the Northern League leader had reiterated his intention in March: on Twitter he had posted the video of the heated question and answer on surrogacy between Lucia Annunziata and Eugenia Roccella during the “Mezz’Ora in Più” broadcast on Rai3, when the journalist ran away a bad word on tv. “Abolition of the Rai fee: as promised, the League has presented a bill, we ask for everyone’s support to approve it”, wrote Salvini. And a proposal has arrived in the Senate from the party that rewrites the objectives and operating rules of Viale Mazzini: “A progressive reduction in the amount of the Rai license fee, with an annual cut of 20 percent, up to its total zeroing in five years ” and also the “univocal” redefinition of the concept of public service (“indispensable for maintaining and affirming cultural and social values ​​and at the same time defending local identities”), also thinking of a new channel “entirely dedicated to the broadcasting of and cultural promotion sections, in which commercials cannot be broadcast”, the content of the draft of the Northern League bill.

Rai therefore after having changed its face with the appointments desired by Giorgia Meloni, now we move on to the canon. The debate ignites in the majority, between the Rai general manager chosen by the premier and the League and within it. The tax could soon be subject to review, also given that the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgettiexplained that he wanted to remove it from the electricity bill while the party, in general, has repeatedly expressed its desire to cancel it within 5 years.
