Artem Uss, the Cassation cancels extradition and precautionary measure: he is no longer in Italy

Milan. The Court of Cassation annulled without delay the sentence with which, last March 21, the Court of Appeal of Milan ordered the extradition of the Russian entrepreneur Artem Uss to the United States. The ‘stoats’ have also ordered the revocation of the precautionary measure against him. It is learned from qualified sources. One of the ‘practical’ consequences of this decision is that if, in an unlikely event, he were to return to Italy, he would no longer be arrested. The judges of the Supreme Court have asked the Foreign Ministry where is the son of the Siberian governor accused, among other things, of smuggling Venezuelan oil, and the answer, after the Interpol investigations, is that he resides in Russia. At this point, the extradition procedure fell due to the absence of the person being extradited from the territory of the Italian State. The provision of the ‘stoats’ is being communicated in these hours also to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as to the Attorney General of the Cassation and the Milan Court of Appeal.

Uss was stopped at Malpensa airport on October 17, 2022 while he was embarking for Istanbul and arrested on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by the New York judicial authorities. On November 25, 2022, the Milan Court of Appeal had granted him house arrest with the electronic bracelet in Basiglio, in the province of Milan. On March 21, 2023, the Court of Appeal had decided to authorize the extradition of Uss to the United States. The next day, however, he had escaped from house arrest. A controversy arose between the Ministry of Justice Carlo Nordio and the magistrates, which then returned. USS’ defense had challenged the decision of the Court of Appeal in relation to the crimes of bank fraud and oil smuggling from Venezuela.
