Alessandro Di Battista returns with ‘Siding’: unknown Europeans with M5S

“Take sides”. Alessandro Di Battista he tries again, with a political association. An experiment of active citizenship like many others. Leapt to the headlines thanks to the name of the well-known vice president: the former Five Star parliamentarian, for a long time the leading face of the Grillina creature, a loyalist of Gianroberto Casaleggio, now very critical of the Contian season.

There is the name, “Siding”. There is the face of Dibba (the president, Luca Di Giuseppe, is a former pentastellato). And there is a large program, “not moderated at all.” No more weapons in Kiev, the introduction of minimum wages and national car sharing. No to the Mes and the Stability Pact. And again: commitment to euthanasia, support for the Palestinian cause, a law on public water. The goal is “to involve groups of citizens in the construction of proposals and projects for the community”, reads the association’s website, which requires members to pay a fee of 20 euros.

The goal of “Siding” is, Di Battista explains on Facebook, “being together and taking care of the country as active citizens”. “Then we have another objective – he adds – to take a position. Net positions. Clear. Not at all moderate”.

The former M5S deputy, who disagreed with the decision to join the Draghi government, could be one of the cards of the 5 Star Movement in the next European elections, in 2024, also to curb the long dem wave pushed by the new secretary Elly Schlein. Dibba has only one mandate from him as elected in the ranks of the Movement (no double mandate trap, therefore), so much so that already in the last political elections there had been contacts between the former pentastellato deputy and the leader of the Movement, Joseph Conte, to evaluate a return to the field. Contacts that ended up in a stalemate. Now we need to see if the former premier will want to nominate him again with the M5S shirt.
