“We follow the indications of the courts”: Meloni’s answer. The images distributed by the Canadian government show the president of the councils with an annoyed face

FROM OUR REPORTER
HIROSHIMA – An unexpected event, perhaps something more. And without any warning, as the photos of Giorgia Meloni distributed by the Canadian government: annoyed in the face, with an evident expression of dismay and restrained anger.

It all happens during the bilateral between Giorgia Meloni and Justin Trudeau, head of government of Canada. Everything is discussed, sanctions against Russia, the political and economic consequences of Beijing’s geopolitical posture, Zelensky’s further requests for military supplies.

A comparison like many others, according to an expected register, but with a footnote that leaves the Prime Minister confused.

Trudeau explicitly accuses her of not complying with i LGBT rights: «We are concerned about some of the positions your government is taking on the matter, but I can’t wait to talk to you about it». The reference is to the European warnings on the Italian legislation on the subject, especially on couples with same-sex parents.

At that point the omelette is done, Meloni didn’t expect it, addresses one very perplexed and annoyed look at the camera and he replies, before the closed-door meeting begins, in this way: «Italy is following the decisions of the courts and is not deviating from the previous administrations».

The note from the Canadian government after the meeting devotes just two lines out of two folders of reports to the incident. The photos of Meloni’s reaction remain, very eloquent.
