Windtre separates the network and sells 60% to the Swedish fund Eqt- Corriere.it

Windtre overtakes Tim on the right and presents the separation of its network to the unions, 60% of which will be sold to the Swedish Eqt fund as a financial partner. All active network infrastructure as well as contractual relationships with third parties, wholesale connectivity services, and all personnel (for a total of about 2,000-2,200 workers) will be transferred to the Netco in about 6-9 months. This was announced by the trade unions who are starting the cooling off procedures in view of the strike and, in a more general TLC dispute, they are calling on the Government to assume its responsibilities.

Wind3, specifies a note from the unions, will instead retain all the licences, Marketing & Sales functions and the IT part, for a total of about 4,000 employees which will diversify the business by looking for those markets that have greater value, such as energy, insurance and safety, both in the Consumer and Business sectors.

Wind3’s choice to sell the network infrastructure represents a negative precedent, compared to what has been done to date in the sector. It is an unprecedented choice and, as far as we are concerned, completely wrong. It is a financial operation, short-lived even for the income statements, which will soon reveal itself for what it is: a technological impoverishment of the country’s second-largest telephone operator, with probable repercussions also of an employment nature, they add.

Wind3 would inevitably turn into a mere reseller of services, leveling the overall technological offer ever more downwards. A company of about 4,000 people focused only on selling connectivity in a hypercompetitive market it won’t be late to have employment problems. Even for the network company no one can escape how the property, entrusted to an investment fund, which by its nature must guarantee economic returns to its subscribers, within a few years will create problems both of employment stability and of absolute dependence of Wind3 from the choices of a third party company.
The project is wrong and we will fight it with all the means at our disposal, they reiterate and conclude with a call to the government: it must assume its responsibilities if it does not want to continue, as it did in past years by previous executives, to hide behind the freedom of the market, and carve out the role of helpless spectator, while Italy in full digital transition continues to fall behind, and thousands of male and female workers lose their professionalism, wages and rights every day
