Twenty Ukrainian soldiers in Italy. And for Conte it is immediately “escalation”

The arrival of about twenty Ukrainian soldiers in Italy, in the province of Latina, was enough to provoke Giuseppe Conte’s usual pacifist tic. To which it was enough to read the news on the pages of the Fatto Quotidiano to say: eccallà, we are close to the “esgalation”. Qualified Defense sources have confirmed that in fact a very small contingent of twenty men has arrived in Sabaudia, at the Army Artillery Command, to complete training in the use of Samp-T anti-missile systems, those that Italy has undertaken to mutual agreement with France to send to the army of Kyiv.

The novelty is not surprising, actually. The Italian Army had already sent instructors to Germany in a program that envisaged the training of nearly 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers by March. Now the training is carried out directly on Italian soil, also because the Army Artillery Command is a particularly suitable structure for training. A piece of news that should be read with caution, almost as if it were information addressed to insiders. And instead what was the reaction of the M5s leader? That of those who say it is a “out of control escalation“, to such an extent that the government and the EU should concentrate “all efforts on the diplomatic level”. Otherwise? Well in that case, according to Conte, “we will end up getting bogged down in the third world war”.

The out-of-reach exits of the former prime minister are also nothing new. Just as the pacifist garment woven by President Grillino is a long-term construction, facilitated by dialogue with the Church and by the desire to differentiate itself from the new phase of the Democratic Party led by Elly Schlein. Even in the parliamentary resolutions on the eve of the European Council, the grillini want to impress a detachment from the democrats, always and only insisting on the watchword: peace. Except that for every fuse, real or presumed, which could aggravate the situation of the conflict on Ukrainian territory – forgetting the violence of Putin’s army – in order to preside over a position, Conte prefers to see escalation everywhere and accuses the government of wanting “a increasingly active role for Italy”, which risks “drag us towards the third world war“. Although in this case it is a simple training in the use of weapons that we have already said we are willing to send.
