The inflation
As he told the Courier in a survey, Italian travelers are paying significantly higher airfares this year than the same period in 2022. In the first six months of this year, the fares for flights from Italy – domestic and to Europe – rose by 47 .5%, with June closing with +52%. Fuel, on the other hand, dropped by 22% in the same period of time, with peaks of -40 and -45% between April and the month just ended. The companies maintain that the current fuel is the one purchased last year, but insiders point out that not all carriers adopt this policy of protection against oil price fluctuations.
The meetings
The face-to-face Mr. Prices has had them, separately, with Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet, Aeroitalia, Ita Airways and Neos. During the meetings, the guarantor asked for explanations on the cost of flights, especially this summer and signaled the presence of tariff anomalies on some routes considered critical, starting from those between Rome, Milan, Venice and the islands (Palermo, Catania, Cagliari ). The area is therefore limited to national borders, since it is difficult to intervene on lines involving other countries.

The companies summoned have ten days to send the requested details to the ministry and to Mr. Prices: by 14-15 July the carriers will also have to show the evolution of tariffs on the routes they have taken care of and explain why there are no anomalies. At the same time, the company and Made in Italy department is also carrying out its checks: all the documents will then be discussed on 20 July in the rapid alert commission on expensive flights.
