Payments are in progress. the answer that INPS has given to the over 512,000 families who are waiting for the universal single allowance, the value of which for the month of May will include amounts by way of final adjustment. In recent weeks, social platforms and associations, as well as the institute itself, have been bombarded with messages from concerned beneficiaries awaiting payment. Adriano Bordignon himself, president of the Forum of family associations revealed it, as he reports Republic: We are receiving numerous reports from all over Italy, we ask for more respect for families. If the cause, as Inps says, is the adjustments that slow down the credit, why weren’t the checks done in time?

INPS delays

INPS responded by announcing the arrival of check payments, explaining that they were integrated with an extra aimed at families for various reasons: the adjustment of the Isee, the increases established by the 2023 budget law and not yet applied, recognition of the premium at birth (seventh and eighth month of pregnancy) and the presence of people with disabilities to whom increased amounts are due starting from March 2022. For many families, this subsidy represents essential support, which in most cases makes the difference on the monthly budget. Its distribution is not the only problem that INPS has to deal with: even the increase in minimum pensions – also established in December 2022 in the drafting of the budget law – has accumulated months of delay and the institute reported that the new amounts will arrive in July.

How the amounts change

The additional disbursement envisaged for more than half a million households will be worth around 140 million euros for the State. Each family will receive an extra average credit of 272 euros. The hypotheses of recovery of amounts disbursed in excess of what is due, on the other hand, are more limited and concern approximately 378 thousand households, with a total amount of recoveries equal to 15 million euros. In these cases, the average amount of the sum to be repaid amounts to approximately 41 euros and will be paid in installments, the amount of which will in any case not exceed one fifth of the total debt. Users – explains the Inps – will be informed of the change in the check with a text message and an e-mail message and will be able to learn more about the calculation methods by contacting the Contact Center or at the Institute’s offices.
