“Producing human beings to trade them on the market is an abominable practice.” He puts it down slowly Anna Finocchiaro, president of Italiadecide, former Minister of Equal Opportunities and Relations with Parliament. “Already a few years ago I proposed a political ban on this practice, and certainly not the introduction of the so-called universal crime, a proposal as suggestive as it is useless. My opposition is not only based on the unacceptability of exploiting a woman’s body, since it cannot be ignored that there are women who, out of economic, sexist or family conditioning, freely decide to carry on a pregnancy for others. I find it inconceivable, but it happens and happens on the basis of personal relationships and outside the market. My hostility is based on the fact that much more often surrogacy is aimed at the production of bodies intended for commercial exchange: children produced by surrogate mothers, on commission, to be destined for the market of applicants, who pay for it”.
