For the centre-right, the double shift is usually a difficult system. Yet yesterday’s results demonstrate how the so-called moderate, undecided, less ideological voters did not believe in the narrative of a permanent April 25

The center-right wins hands down, the center-left loses out, the Schlein effect is not seen, the attrition of the executive is not perceived, Meloni’s moderate turnaround is not punished and the government majority is rewarded even where its expansion had not been foreseen. He did so by winning the vote in the big cities in Tuscany (Massa, Pisa, Siena), winning in all the municipalities in the vote in Sicily (Catania, Trapani, Syracuse, Ragusa) winning in stories strongholds of the left (Ancona, Brindisi) and improving its performance compared to the number of municipalities administered before the elections. Two weeks ago, at the end of the first round, Elly Schlein exulted in the victories of Brescia and Teramo, underlining the objective presence of a Pd “in excellent health”. And the Republic itself, the day after the first round, supporting the narrative of the secretary of the Democratic Party, came to shoot a reckless headline in six columns: “The right wave has stopped”.
