Two days of celebrations, 7 and 8 May. For the 75th anniversary of the first session of the Senate, Palazzo Madama has decided to celebrate what the president Ignatius LaRussa he called it “the return of freedom”. For the occasion, on Monday 8 May from 11.30 in the Hall decorated with the tricolor – so as to reproduce exactly the layout of the first session – there will also be the head of state Sergio Mattarella. A concert is also planned Gianni Morandiwho will sing the anthem of Italy at the opening.

“May 8, 1948 is the date on which the Senate Republican held the first session – La Russa recalled during the press conference – After the war he discussed whether to call himself the Chamber of Senators, but in the end the name prevailed Senate of the Republic. It was an apt choice, the right one, because it gave the precise idea of the fact that the Senate was not someone’s but the Republic, while the Chamber belongs to the deputies. This choice recalled the historical nature of the Senate which has always been the Upper House.”
