The seaside resorts “betrayed” by the government: “They risk thirty thousand families”

Close to the House approval of the Milleproroghe bill – with which the government extended the current beach concessions until December 2024 – and, above all, the letter with which President Mattarella accompanied the signing of the bill, opened yesterday in Carrara the 24th edition of the “Balnearia” festival, which brings together representatives of seaside resorts as well as bipartisan political exponents. The conference is becoming in these hours the rallying of the front opposed to the modification of the bill, with which Giorgia Meloni could meet the request for revision of the head of state and European pressure, which push for a ban on concessions. The latest appeal in this sense comes from a spokesman for the Commission, who this morning let it be known that Europe is “carefully observing the content and effects of the provision, not yet notified, to evaluate the appropriate response”.

Yesterday the first voices in defense of the status quo had already arrived from Carrara. For example that of the president of Confartigianato state-owned enterprises, Mauro Vanniwho raised his cry of alarm: “Thirty thousand families in the middle of a street they will be a big problem for this government”. To answer him there was among the others Maurice Gasparri, senator of Forza Italia, who advised the sector to “communicate better, to make Italians understand that you are not people who get rich by paying ridiculous fees to the state”. Confirming how Forza Italia, together with the League, remains the party most sensitive to the interests of the category.

The seaside resorts challenge the promises of the electoral campaign: “Meloni, Salvini and all the center-right have always said they would help us”, said the president Vanni giving voice to the betrayal of which the category feels victim. Umberto Buratti of the Democratic Party and Stefano Fassina of Liberi e equal are also listening to him today.

But being able to channel the anger of the managers into a political proposal that can be accepted by Brussels (and by the Quirinale), it won’t be easy for the government. The search for a compromise is also aggravated by the time factor: a meeting between center-right leaders will necessarily have to take place by Wednesday, given Meloni’s subsequent trip to India and the Emirates. While the hypothesis of an interview between the competent ministers and some category representativesin an attempt to tone down the harsh tones that come from Tuscany.
