Meloni: “The consent of the voters spurs us to speed up the reforms”. “The center-right wins”, say Rampelli and Donzelli (FdI). But Renzi warns: “The victory of the administrations is decided in the second round, and the game is open in many municipalities”

In the aftermath of first administrative round the results speak for themselves: the government coalition wins 4-2 over the centre-left. “I wish all the mayors elected in the first round of the administrative elections. The center-right confirms its strength as a government coalition, the value of stability and clarity in front of the Italians,” said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. “The consensus of the voters spurs us to accelerate the implementation of the program of economic, social and institutional reforms”, she added.

That of the municipals is “a clear result in favor of the centre-right. Among the four municipalities where the centre-right wins, there is one, Latina, which has changed hands: that is, it governed the centre-left and now governs the centre-right with Matilde Celentano, a candidate for Brothers of Italy. It’s the only leap we’ve had from one side of the line-up to the other,” he says Fabio Rampelli exponent of the Brothers of Italy.

“The centre-right maintains a strength which is nothing new – he says Nicola Fratoiannileader of the Italian Left – the center-left holds and indicates a possibility of a trend reversal where it is united, it builds cohesive coalitions and indicates a project”.

Were these local elections also a derby between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein? “No, I’m sorry that some Schlein fan made the mistake of leading him to believe, then the results confirmed the government. If there has been a Schlein effect it is in our favor,” he says Giovanni Donzelli of FdI. Rampelli is also on the same line, who then adds on the disappointing result of the M5s: “The 5 stars originally had the mayor of Parma, the mayor of Rome, the mayor of Turin which do not seem insignificant to me. Now they are beyond below 5 percent and I’m in a black crisis”.

From the Bernini hotel in Rome, the leader of Italia viva Matthew Renzi comments on the vote of the local administrations: “I believe that no one has won them or rather that the administrative victory is decided by the second round: if you look at the numbers, the center-right won, but in reality the center-left is stronger in the second round and I believe that in the second round the game will be open in many municipalities”.
