The premier’s trust, the accusations about her past. Rossi prepares the turning point in the name of “rebalancing” – Corriere.it

of Rai, alongside the managing director Roberto Sergio, and in a year’s time (this is the agreement) in place of the latter. Roman, born in 1966, Catholic education at the Villa Sora Salesian Institute in Frascati, degree in Literature with honors from Sapienza University, he has seen Giorgia Meloni grow as a leader and enjoys his trust. Not that it escapes him that the enemies aren’t just on the left: Lega and a part of FdI have waged war on him and won’t concede anything to him. But Rossi is more itchy than the sort of blood test that the cultural world he opposed has already begun to give him, going through old publications and revealing that he has deleted his social profiles, who knows why.

Two things just don’t go down well: the definition “fascist” and the fame of pro-Putin. Compared to the first, he rattles off his story, eventually submitting to that exam that he in principle refuses. And he starts from his father Guelfo, for almost 30 years the closest collaborator of Franco Maria Malfatti, a true Christian Democrat, several times minister, president of the European Commission. And then her mother, from a “young Italian” to an anti-fascist, when she saw her fervent Mazzinian father being marginalized for not having taken the fascist membership card. So no nostalgia for the Duce, but the demand that that period be definitively historicized. A task that he gave himself when, well after joining the Youth Front at the age of 15 «because they were the only ones who invoked the country, like his grandfather», he met at the university Alessandro Giuli, Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, Angelo Mellone, in the footsteps by Marcello Veneziani, Giano Accame and Gennaro Malgieri. Rossi recalls those times when, on the occasion of April 25, a confrontation was organized at La Sapienza between Accame and the communist Antonello Trombadori, who, attacked by the social centers, allegedly claimed the need for “a shared memory”.

Thus liquidated the remote past, the more recent one, and in particular the pro-Putinian drift, triggers a formal reply in Rossi: «The articles that have been written about are related to 6-7 years ago: in political terms, a geological era. At the time, a good part of the European chancelleries made agreements with Russia and a large part of the analysts hoped that it would enter the Eurasian orbit. Russia was lined up against the jihadist threat». And now? «The choice to invade Ukraine has changed the world and also the judgment on Putin and on his actions. The invasion of a sovereign state and the violation of every elementary norm of international law relegates Russia out of the civil society».

Then there is the present and the accusation of wanting to distort the narrative current of the country. But the revolution will not be a return to the past, to the pattern of networks. «We invented the genres with CEO Fabrizio Salini», he claims. So? The first year it will be necessary to secure the company: without a license fee, general taxation will be used, certainly not advertising. Then Rai will have to go back to producing formats, as it is already doing with fiction. And the narration? The idea that the public service must reconstruct the imaginary complex of all narratives will be implemented through a rebalancing. His recipe: just left-wing intellectuals in the talks, just monologues describing an Italy that is not very inclusive in Sanremo and space for fiction on characters like Gabriele D’Annunzio.
