The “teams” behind the candidates are betting on generational turnover. Serracchiani sides with Bonaccini

The dispute in the Democratic Party would seem to have a foregone conclusion. The surveys, those confidential and not, Stefano Bonaccini, who received the endorsement of the group leader of the Chamber Debora Serracchiani yesterday (soon that of the president of the senators Simona Malpezzi should also arrive). But the primaries are still a month away and anything can still happen. For this reason Elly Schlein continues her run with determination: «The polls don’t worry me».

In this context, the dem duelists continue to observe a certain fair play between They. Only a few indirect jabs, from time to time. On the other hand, there is an unwritten pact between all four candidates. It concerns the fate of the party. None of the aspiring leaders wants to see a split. And neither do most of their supporters. At least the “new” generation does not want it. That is, those forty-year-olds who hope to take the place of the “old” leaders. Even between them there is a pact, which could be defined as “generational”.

Yes, forty-year-olds are aiming for the top of the party. Now for them this goal is possible. Especially since all the candidates insist on the need for a “generational renewal”. And yesterday Bonaccini, in presenting his promoting committee, was keen to underline that the average age of the members of this body is forty-two: “They represent that idea of renewal that we will practice at all levels”. Schlein shares the same opinion: “The need for a generational change is in the country as well as in the Democratic Party”. With the former vice president of the Emilia-Romagna region are Peppe Provenzano, Marco Furfaro, Michela De Biase and Marco Sarracino, just to name some of the forty-year-olds of the Democratic Party who aim for a change at the top. With Bonaccini there are Brando Benifei, Anna Ascani, Piero De Luca. But the territorial organizational network of the governor of Emilia-Romagna has been entrusted to a fifty-year-old: the Lombard senator Alessandro Alfieri, spokesman for the reformist Base.

Meanwhile, a first “case” has already broken out on the new members. The Bolognese committee that supports Bonaccini turned to the provincial congressional commission asking to verify the presence of alleged “blank cards” available to Schlein supporters. The news was published yesterday by Rest of the Pug. The newspaper reports the story of a new member who, in front of a club secretary, allegedly argued that Schlein’s Bolognese committee would have blank cards available with which to join the party. However, the Bologna dem federation ruled out irregularities.
