The government still in defense with the EU on beach concessions: "There is no shortage"

The data brought to the technical table by the Ministry of Infrastructure would show that there is no shortage of beaches yet to be put out to tender. But the mapping will continue for a few more weeks

After repeated calls from Brussels and the latest ruling by the European Court of Justice, the government is still taking sides in defense of the owners of the seaside concessions. The data brought to the technical table by the Ministry of Infrastructure show that there is no shortage of beaches, out of the 460 million square meters surveyed by the state property, only 80 million would be occupied by factories and other activities. Yesterday Assobalneari added a series of photos to the Palazzo Chigi dossier as proof that spaces are not lacking, indeed. Entrepreneurs therefore hope it will be possible to guarantee the competition required by Europe by assigning the new beaches under concession and not reassigning those already occupied.

The president of Fiba Confesercenti Maurizio Rostignoli comments to La Stampa: “The technical table is profitable, the path traced by the government is the right one. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has provided the first interesting raw data, which will subsequently be verified and analyzed, to clarify and establish the criteria on the scarcity or otherwise of the resource”. The entire majority is therefore confident of being able to propose a valid solution to Brussels to defend the sector, a real electoral stronghold of the centre-right. The deputy of the Brothers of Italy Riccardo Zucconi reassures: “At the end of the work, the table will provide an exact picture of the situation. Then technical criteria will have to be defined to calculate the possible scarcity of beaches, but this will be a political choice that will fall on the government”.

The next meeting with the technical table, for the finalization of the final data, is set for July 20. After which the government will seek a solution by the end of the year.
