Meloni in Warsaw: “We share positions with Poland. We will do everything necessary for Ukraine”

With Mateusz Morawiecki “in almost all, or all, of the issues that we find ourselves facing at the level of the European Council, one glance is really enough for us to know that our position will be a shared one, on so many matters that today involve us in a time of crisis, in which we must be able to live up to the story, which is calling us”. With these words Giorgia Meloni he opened the press point in Warsaw, after the summit with the Polish prime minister, reiterating the similarity of views between the two leaders and between the two countries.

A continuity which, underlines the Prime Minister, is even clearer than the war in Ukraine: “The Italian and Polish positions are substantially identical. We are at the side of a people who are amazing the world to defend freedom, territorial integrity, against an aggression that we cannot accept and that we will do everything we can to prevent. We will stand by Ukraine as long as it takes, all the way. And this also applies to the upcoming Vilnius summit. We also agree on this with Poland on the need for real security guarantees for Ukraine”. The only condition for a peace, Meloni underlines, that it is “long and lasting”.

About the chapter migrants, the one on which a few days ago at the European Council Italy and Poland followed different paths despite Italian attempts at mediation – Morawiecki blocked the agreement of the 27, effectively imposing together with Orban that the paragraph dedicated to migrations come out of the final conclusions – Meloni says he has “the same goal” as the Warsaw leader: “Stop the illegal flows”. And he adds: “I understand Poland’s difficulty, it defends national interests”.
