The first "green" hydrogen ceramic factory

The first "green" hydrogen ceramic factory

Until recently it seemed like science fiction, but now hydrogen factories are really starting to appear. The companies Iris Ceramica Group and Edison Next (Edison group) will build together in Castellarano, in the province of Reggio Emilia, the first plant in the world to produce ceramics powered by "green" hydrogen, obtained from renewable sources.
This is not a pilot plant but a real factory, which will be operational in 2025 to produce ceramic slabs. This initiative launches a new course for the decarbonisation of a particularly energy-intensive industrial sector and therefore crucial for achieving the country's energy transition objectives; in turn, the ceramic district of the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia is strategic for this production sector.
Giovanni Brianza, Chief Executive Officer of Edison Next explains: "Decarbonisation for energy-intensive sectors means having the courage to rethink their processes, going to intervene at the heart of production systems through the introduction of innovative technologies with the aim of guaranteeing sustainability environment, but also the competitiveness of the sector on international markets. This project, based on the production and use of green hydrogen in an industrial setting, fits into Edison's strategy which is investing in numerous projects for the benefit of industrial customers".
