The center is now a Pd affair. Romano Prodi’s advice to Schlein

Romano Prodi invites Elly Schlein to “find a compromise on everything” and adds that “compromise is a noble word”. The former premier sees space in the direction of the center, believes that winning votes in that direction “is easier also thanks to the quarrels between Renzi and Calenda”. He then invites not to let the battle for “rights” prevail over that for economic and social choices: the three questions “are a bouquet of flowers that must stay together, the problem is not to accentuate them”. These are reasonable indications, the result of national and European government experience, which also for this reason should be taken seriously. They contain a subdued but no less substantial criticism of the attitudes assumed by Elly Schlein, which however Prodi thinks can and should be corrected in concrete political action.
