“Schlein’s Pd doesn’t waver: we will support the Ukrainian resistance”, Gribaudo tells us

If we hadn’t also supported Ukraine militarily, the resistance of that proud and courageous people would have been defeated by Russia. And today we would be talking about something else. So we did well, albeit a painful choice. War cannot be the solution to a conflict, but at the same time we cannot pass off the surrender, which someone wants, as peace. We all want peace, but, as President Mattarella said, it must be a just peace. And here we would like to hear the European voice, stronger and more united. Europe has the strength, not just diplomatic strength, to start peace negotiations. But this can only happen if Ukraine resists”.

There are those who have spoken, including Romano Prodi, who mentioned the divergence of interests between the EU and the USA. “I absolutely don’t think that’s the case. The US needs the EU to strengthen itself and we Europeans need the US to be more than an ally for future scenarios, not only economic and political. Whoever pushes this narrative does harm to Europe and the USA. There is much more at stake than the enlargement of an autocracy’s spheres of influence. No pursuit of “pacifism” count, therefore. Is that, then, the most propitious terrain? “The minimum wage is the first challenge. But we must try to immediately set up a universal policy on work. We must fight poor work, undignified work, unsafe work. The wage question must return central to our debate, and not because let’s go back to speaking to one of our electoral constituencies, but because post-covid work risks not being qualitatively positive, especially for women and young people.
