Schlein reopens the construction site of the wide field with the 5 stars in Piedmont

ORBASSANO – The administrative meetings of 14 and 15 May as a test bed for a possible alliance with the 5-star Movement at the 2024 regional elections in Piedmont: “A good result will also bode well for the challenge of the next elections in Piedmont”. Pd secretary Elly Schlein talks about it under the gazebo in Piazza Umberto I in Orbassano, where she has just held a rally in support of the Democratic mayoral candidate Luca Di Salvo. Here Pd and 5 stars run separate: but a few meters from microphones and cameras, the pentastellato candidate Andrea Suriani also attended the speech, together with Senator Elisa Pirro. In case of arrival at the ballot, Suriani himself suggests, the agreement in the center-left is an absolutely practicable path. The agreement was instead already found in the first round in Ivrea and Pianezza.

Public health, public school, work, environment and climate are the founding points of the new Democratic Party, which Schlein lists speaking from the stage, together with the regional secretary Domenico Rossi. But, looking in particular to next year, it is above all on waiting lists and inefficiencies in health care that the Democrats plan to lead the battle, as they have already begun to do in the various provinces in recent weeks. The secretary explains shortly after: «On these issues, public health, the battle over the minimum wage, the defense of constitutional values, the implementation of the Pnrr, we can fight on an increasingly common ground both in Parliament and in the country together with the other opposition”.

On the other hand, the opponent “at the moment is the right that governs this country and which in recent days has once again demonstrated its inadequacy”, on the Def mess, on public health “deprived of fundamental resources” and on work: ” We are extremely concerned by the provocation of bringing a decree on May 1 that pushes precarious work, which this country no longer needs, quite the contrary. The younger generations are now afraid of the future because with contracts that last a few months, with no certainty of renewal, and with wages that are too low, it is difficult to build a future and a family for those who want to do it».

Piazza Umberto I, in the heart of the town, is the only space that the Municipality has reserved for electoral appointments: therefore it happens, in an unconventional way, that literally next to the Pd station there are the banquets of the outgoing mayor Cinzia Bosso and the center-right parties, sharing the square under the banner of fair play (the Pd secretary also greets them at the beginning of the speech). Like Giuseppe Conte, who yesterday in turn opened the “laboratory of Ivrea” as an example of an alliance on the left but maintaining caution about the future, Schlein also toured the four major municipalities called to the polls, in addition to Orbassano and Ivrea also Novi Ligure and Pianezza. With her many elected officials and party administrators: not only those like Conticelli, Foglietta, Gribaudo and Pentenero who had supported her right away in the primaries, but also (and above all, one might say) the exponents of the Bonaccini motion, such as secretary Rossi and several regional councilors.

And if it is true, as Schlein argues when commenting on the results of a positive survey, that “the climate around has changed, there is great hope”, then in these Piedmontese administrations one can try to win, even in Orbassano where five years ago neither the centre-left (with the Pd at 13%) nor the 5 stars (at 17%) managed to reach the second round and where the mayor Bosso starts clearly in advantage for the reconfirmation. All this also in view of the regional scheduled in 12 months. «Surely a good result and a victory in the administrative round of this round will also bode well for the challenge of the next regional ones in Piedmont – underlines Schlein -. We are mobilizing: the hope is to be able to win and bring about a change that our communities definitely feel the need for”.
