Schlein on migrants: “The EU-Tunisia agreement does not take into account rights”
[ad_1]
On the agreement with Tunisia «I think it’s the usual attempt to externalize borders without worrying about respect for the principles of democracy and respect for people’s rights. We do not share an approach that tends from a security perspective to focus only on the aspect of curbing migratory flows, when at the same time we know what upheavals Tunisia is experiencing from the point of view of respect for democracy but also economic and social. It is an approach that we have already seen in the past, with other countries, with Turkey and with Libya”. This was stated by the secretary of the Pd, Elly Schlein, on the sidelines of the high-level meeting of the European Socialist Party in Brussels, on the occasion of the EU-CELAC summit.
The minimum wage
The proposal to establish a minimum wage by law has the support of “75% of Italian men and women” and the government of Giorgia Meloni “cannot turn its face away” in front of the “working poor”, underlines the secretary of Pd Elly Schlein. «It is right that we talk about the minimum wage – says Schlein – because the oppositions have managed to join forces and the discussion in the commission will begin shortly, where the Democratic Party will continue to defend the idea that we need to fight poor work: three and a half million male and female workers, according to Istat, are poor even if they work». «The government of Giorgio Meloni – he continues – cannot turn its face to the other side on a measure on which the polls say that there is a support of 75% of the Italians of the Italians. So we will continue to fight and we will not give up an inch on this important proposal”.
The partnership between Europe and South America
«The partnership between Europe and South America needs to be greatly strengthened and the European Union must insist on this. We have faced important common challenges, which also unite us against the attempts of the far right to choose one enemy a day. And they are the same all over the world: they are different people, they are emancipated women, they are migrants, now they are also ecologists and measures against climate change,” says the secretary of the Democratic Party. «We here, on the other hand, have a lot in common: we have to take care of people, of our communities, and be able to take them by the hand through the fears that our society is going through-she adds. And those pauses are due to the great transformations we are experiencing».
