The law to prevent surrogacy, wanted by Minister Rocella and FdI, arrives in Montecitorio. Dems mediate to avoid rifts. The role of +Europe

In Parliament on the day of the vote on the law against pregnancy for others (Gpa), with the center-right who wants to make this practice a universal crime, which is expected to be punishable in Italy also for a crime committed abroad.
A crackdown strongly supported by the Minister for the Family Eugenia Roccella and, among the parties, primarily by Brothers of Italy. (here all the numbers on the gpa in Italy)

It is a highly divisive ethical issue, which has triggered numerous distinctions even in left-wing parties. Today the vote in the Chamber will begin, but there are dozens of amendments, so it is difficult to reach the finish line. Then it will pass with the examination of the law in the Senate.

L
The position of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s party is clear: Surrogate motherhood is a prohibited practice and, to prevent it, the only way is to make it a universal crime. The position of the Brothers of Italy is therefore clear, but the party has prepared an amendment to ensure that this new law does not invalidate some particular cases of heterologous fertilization. In the majority, the principle promoted by FdI is also shared by the League. Ditto in Forza Italia, albeit with some slight distinctions.

In the Democratic Party the debate is very complex: there is a contrast between the majority of the party headed by the line (on the left) of the secretary Elly Schlein and the influential currents of cathodems and reformists. The dem leader, who in recent weeks (albeit in a personal capacity) had reiterated her support for gestation for others,
must to keep the various souls of his party together. And on Monday evening, after hours of videoconference discussion, a line was agreed that would allow total internal confrontation to be avoided: a vote against the universal crime and abstention on the Magi amendment. The reference goes to the amendment presented by the deputy of +Europe, which would regulate in Italy the gestation for others in solidarity (ie non-profit). If he was voted, the risk
to create relevant incidents in the dem would have become evident: thus a third way was found.

The position of Italy lives in opposition to the Gpa, while on the fact that it is made a universal crime there is freedom to vote. The vast majority of Iv totally opposed to the Gpa, explained the national coordinator Lella Paita who in her party had a frank confrontation with Ivan Scalfarotto, gay and lgbt activists, staunch supporter of gestation for others.

Inside Action, the leader Carlo Calenda has repeatedly reiterated his opposition to the Gpa, not arguing for the need to make it a universal crime. Again, the positions are more or less radical and the real positions of the various deputies will only be seen at the time of the vote.
