Schlein against the “Middle Ages” of rights: “Meloni? We don’t need a female premier if she doesn’t fight for emancipation”

Raise your voice on rights and attack the government. Elly Schlein plays at home: he is a guest at Pride Square in Milan. He speaks of the “nationalist international” and the “Middle Ages of rights”. He promises that the Democratic Party will continue to fight relentlessly “for the recognition of the children of homoparental families”. His words that come while the city is experiencing a bittersweet atmosphere after the decision of the Court of Milan on homoparental couples. The judges, in fact, annulled the transcript of the birth certificate of a son of two fathers and, at the same time, opened the recognition of those born with heterologous fertilization.

“Families are based on love and nothing else”, the secretary articulates. The target is the entire line of the government on the issue of rights, starting with the law on surrogacy as a “universal crime”, close to being approved parliament on pressure from the center-right majority. But not only that: the secretary criticizes the executive, especially those who lead it. “We can’t do anything with a female prime minister if she doesn’t fight for emancipation and doesn’t fight to improve the living situation of other women”. The reference, needless to say, is to the prime minister, Giorgia Meloni. “There is a strong difference between female and feminist leaderships: there have been many of the former and not all of them have questioned the patriarchal society”. For the dem leader, it makes no sense “to come to power in order not to implement the law 194” and therefore without “guaranteeing a certain percentage of objecting doctors in all structures”.

The real challenge therefore is “to change the leadership model by rejecting muscular and male leadership, and surrounding ourselves with people who know more than us in order to write better public policies”. And again: he considers the fact that Meloni has decided to become “serious” call ‘the premier’ and not ‘the premier’. “It’s a surrender,” says Schlein. “It is a huge waste to be ancillary to the patriarchal system, not to question it and not to fight against discrimination”.
