“To rebalance the relationship between politics and the judiciary, the institute of the authorization to proceed against parliamentarians could be reintroduced”. The proposal does not come from a political scientist or a historian, but, surprisingly, from a magistrate: Angelo Piraino, secretary of the independent Judiciary. “The tensions in the relationship between politics and the judiciary – Piraino declares to Foglio – very often derive, as recently, from the fact that periodically and inevitably there are judicial initiatives involving political exponents and they are seen as interference. In the past these events were not lived with the same tensions as today. Hence the proposal on the authorization to proceed”.
