Not only did Renzi lose the case, but he was also forced to compensate the editor of the newspaper with a sum of 42 thousand euros, including the legal costs incurred by Travaglio.

According to the court of Florence, therefore, that roll of toilet paper did not cause any moral or image damage to the leader of Italia viva because, reads the sentence, “a political figure in a democratic state must tolerate satirical images of his person and of his face, even imprinted on gadgets like the one in question, because only in a totalitarian regime is it forbidden to criticize or ridicule a political figure”.
