Rampelli’s proposal (FdI): “Only Italian architects for the bridge over the Strait”

No foreign starchitects for the bridge over the Strait of Messina, it must be built by young Italian architects. Matteo Salvini, who made his first battle with the connection between Sicily and Calabria, is warned: it must be a symbol of national, European and Mediterranean cultural identity. Fabio Rampelli, vice president of the Chamber of Brothers of Italy (and architect), presented an agenda to the Ponte decree, which has just obtained the green light from the Chamber.

«Beyond the indispensable static requirements – he explains – and the use of all the most modern construction technologies, the work becomes the symbol of the architectural genius that has amazed the world precisely starting from the structural achievements and aesthetic solutions coming from that quadrant geographical”.

While waiting to better understand who will be entrusted with the executive design of the single span bridge of over 3 km, it must be said that FdI’s aversion to the so-called starchitects comes from afar. From the time of the protests on Richard Meier’s Ara pacis on Fuksas’ Nuvola at Eur or on Calatrava’s Vela at Tor Vergata.

The Minister of Culture himself, Gennaro Sangiuliano, after meeting the promising young talents of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, had said: «We are discussing an important project in which Italy will be the protagonist and I said: why don’t we leave space to the young people? And I think that’s the way it will be.”
