Rampelli wants a law to punish those who don’t use Italian

Mandatory Italian language for the use of goods and services. Imposition to transmit any public communication in Italian. Obligation to use translation tools or interpreters for any event or conference taking place in the country. Prohibition of using foreign acronyms or names for roles in the company, unless they can be translated. In schools and universities, courses in a foreign language are tolerated only if justified by the presence of foreign students.

These are the main points of the bill first signed by Fabio Rampelli, deputy of Fdi and vice president of the Chamber. “The violation of the obligations”, reads the pdl, “involves the application of an administrative sanction consisting in the payment of a sum from 5,000 to 100,000 euros”. The text, made up of 8 articles and presented on 23 December, contains the «provisions for the protection and promotion of the Italian language». In addition to various specific obligations “with a view to safeguarding nationality and defending identity”, the law establishes the Committee for the protection, promotion and enhancement of the Italian language.

«We thought we had already seen many rambling proposals bordering on the ridiculous on the part of this majority – comment the exponents of the 5 Star Movement in the Culture Committee of the Chamber and the Senate – but the one that comes with a special bill from the Vice President of the Chamber Rampelli beats them all. The standard bearer of the Brothers of Italy brings a crusade against “foreigners” to Parliament, providing for penalties from 5,000 to 100,000 for anyone who violates the Italian language. It is a pity that it is his government that has established the Ministry of Made in Italy. Will Rampelli denounce his party colleague Urso who is at the head of such a ministry, so prone to foreignism even in his name? – they ironize -. In short, it is the same government of which he belongs to which is responsible for the pollution of the Italian language, denounced in his report to the law. Let’s hope it’s a sensational misunderstanding, or misunderstanding, if you prefer, but we fear that it’s instead the umpteenth boutade of a party and a majority evidently unable to cover themselves with ridicule even for just one day. What will Giorgia Meloni think, who on the day of her inauguration proudly defined herself as a political underdog? ».

Even the deputy of +Europa Benedetto Della Vedova takes refuge in irony: «The first to commit the crime would be his party colleagues Urso, head of the minister of Made in Italy, and even the premier Giorgia Meloni herself, who used in her settlement speech deposited in the Chambers the word “underdog’” to define herself and her rise to power». And again: «What will be the next step, Honorable Rampelli? Cancel the day hospital? Abolish streaming and downloads? Going back to calling Pallacorda Panatta’s sport? Promoting the correct use of the Italian language is acceptable, doing it with autarkic prohibitions and sanctions is comical».

Carlo Calenda comments on Twitter: “Today a titanic battle is underway for the palm of the most stupid position taken between Ignazio La Russa and Rampelli, who is presenting a law against those who do not use the Italian language in public institutions and investee companies”.
