The vice president of the Chamber defends the public presence in the former Alitalia after the MEF agreement with Lufthansa: “It is still a national airline”. Profits above forecasts, cash with a positive delta of 5 million

The message to Ita’s majority shareholder is clear: “It is more than ever appropriate to maintain an Italian presence that acts as a regulator”. The sender is Fabio Rampelli, vice president of the Chamber of Brothers of Italy, who in a long statement traces the picture of the company that was Alitalia, which recently passed over 41 percent into the hands of the German Lufthansa. “Ita Airways’ passenger revenue trend further strengthens the positive trend of the previous months”, says Rampelli, speaking of “an improvement that is reflected in all network sectors”. And he underlines that “not only are revenues growing, but also the cost components of the company are positive”.

The growth of the company, explains Rampelli, “is higher than the forecasts of + 21 million (+13 percent) in May and + 32 million (+5 percent) for the January-April period”. With cash flow which, at the end of the period, “stands at 372 million against 367 forecast, equal to a positive delta of 5 million”.

The conclusion drawn by the vice president of the Chamber is the following: “All the more reason now that a reliable partner has been identified in Lufthansa it is more than ever appropriate to maintain an Italian presence that acts as a regulator and allows for the development of the current growth indicators for the Italian system, objectively encouraging”. After all, says Rampelli, Ita is “still a flag carrier given that the Italian state controls ownership with 59 percent”.
