The Belgian magistrates who are in charge of the investigation into the alleged influences based on corruption in the European Parliament by an organization linked to former MEP Antonio Panzeri have just arrived at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Milan. The Brussels investigating judge Michel Claise and the federal prosecutor Fderic Van Leeuws were received by the Milan public prosecutor Marcello Viola and the deputy prosecutor Fabio De Pasquale, who follows the Italian offshoots of the Belgian investigation. With the two Italian magistrates there are also the men of the Guardia di Finanza who in recent weeks have carried out searches and seizures of current accounts of the Belgian suspects and people connected to them.

Belgian magistrates I’m in Milan for two reasons: the first, to acquire an immense quantity of documents that were seized by the Guardia di Finanza at their express request with a European mandate. Then there are forensic copies to be made of the seized mobile phones and of all the electronic memories of the computers seized not only from the persons under investigation, but also from the many collaborators of the parliamentarians who work in Brussels and are resident in Lombardy. Finally, and this is the most delicate aspect, the judge Michel Claise and the federal prosecutor Frderic Van Leeuws will have to discuss with Viola and De Pasquale if and which strands of the Belgian investigation will then be cultivated and developed in Milan.
