The intervention of the Minister of Justice: “Not a single word from Meloni against the judiciary: there are automatic reactions from the ANM”

«No one wants to prevent the judiciary from commenting on the laws from a technical point of view. The fault of politics was to adhere or rather bow to the judiciary without saying: “We listen to your opinions but in the end we and only we decide because we have a mandate that according to the Constitution derives from the people”». This was stated by Carlo Nordio, Minister of Justice, in an interview with the newspaper Free.

With regard to the cases of Santanchè, Delmastro and La Russa,
the Keeper of the Seals explains that these are «independent facts and I refuse to think of magistrates who want to interfere in government action through judicial actions. However, it cannot be denied that every time an attempt has been made to reform the justice system, it has always been blocked with judicial interventions”.

Finally Nordio rejects
the ANM accusations against Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of wanting to delegitimize the judiciary.
«It does not seem to me that the Prime Minister has uttered a single word against the judiciary. These reactions of wanting to delegitimize magistrates when some of their initiatives are criticized is almost an automatic reaction on the part of the Association. They did it to me a month ago too.” To which “I replied that if the magistrates get angry when we criticize their work – Nordio points out – then the politicians are also right to get angry when they are investigated by the magistrates”. Finally: «In my ideal world, magistrates shouldn’t criticize the laws and politicians shouldn’t criticize the sentences. A week ago I met the representatives of the ANM and Santalucia at the ministry. We have tried to identify the points that unite us more than those that divide us. We are essentially interested in efficient, rapid and fair justice», concludes Nordio.
