Pd defeated in the administrative elections, Bonaccini defends Schlein: “He is not to blame. Too early to make internal processes in the party”

Stefano Bonaccini defends Elly Schlein from criticism after the disappointing result of the local elections. He admits the “clear defeat of the Democratic Party and the clear victory of the right” he says as president of the dem. But he also acknowledges that “putting the blame on those who arrived a few months ago would be a glaring mistake”. So the secretary is not at fault. “Too many secretaries have worn out in the Democratic Party because an internal process starts with the first defeat: it is too early”, she comments.

On Tg1 Mattina, the governor of Emilia-Romagna underlined how the party must deal with the “material problems of the citizens. I would like to point out one: three quarters of the Italian regions have their health accounts in the red. I hope the government will get a handle on it. The the right to health must be guaranteed to a poor man as well as a rich one and if I were in the Democratic Party I would start from this great battle. If the Democratic Party starts from these things it will be able to recover very soon”.

Bonaccini also addresses the issue related to the reconstruction after the flood in Emilia Romagna which has become the subject of a tug of war in the majority. Giorgia Meloni held back the appointment of the governor as extraordinary commissioner to buy time, Matthew Salvini he vetoed it, while many governors of the center-right have spent themselves on him taken up by the premier herself (“Think of Bonaccini commissioner, when there are still funerals to do. I hope that the extraordinary commissioner for reconstruction will not arrive with the times of the Greek calends because we need, while we face the emergency, to begin the reconstruction immediately.
