Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni still has just over six months to decide whether and how to exit the Chinese strategic project of the Silk Road, but she has already repeated several times that in the memorandum – signed on 23 March 2019 by the then first Conte government and which will be renewed automatically in December, barring a formal communication to Beijing – “careful reflection” is needed. She also repeated it to her partners at the G7 in Hiroshima, which took place on May 19 and 20, and at the press conference before leaving Japan. It takes time to decide, Meloni said, but then he spoke of a necessary “parliamentary passage”, that is, the one that according to the Prime Minister would have been missing when the agreement, strongly desired and supported by the M5s, was signed.
