“If it ever happens, I will also go to France for Italian culture, perhaps and despite my curriculum. I look forward to more compliments.” The former director of Inda writes to us

Dear editor, in the harsh, but ultimately witty, article that appeared in the Foglio of 29 June, my curriculum as a commentator on La Repubblica, artistic director at the Eliseo in Rome, then director in Milan for the mayors Moratti and Pisapia, again in Rome, at the Argentina Theater, and then at the Greek Theater in Syracuse and much more. What on earth owes this narrow career that, through clenched teeth, is the same extensor chronicler to describe? In political consortia or to protect some power?

The excellent columnist is forced to list administrators and political responsibilities of various backgrounds, losing himself and the reader the compass, from Pd, to Forza Italia, to the Lega and to the Cinquestelle. Ohibo’! Could it be that Calbi is an independent of quality, chosen from time to time by this or that? Exactly, the columnist always replies, “in politics Calbi was everything and therefore no one”. That’s right, I humbly deal with culture, reaping successes and sometimes failures, and in politics I am nobody.

I thank your newspaper even when it gratifies me for my inspiration, controversy and temper, bringing me closer to Strehler, who remains a giant and a model. As for the accounts of my business, let the statutory budgets speak for themselves, never contested, and those too, why not? public, critics, awards and recognitions, including exhibitions. Rarely, apart from the excellent and punctual reporter Caruso, have they complained and in any case criticisms are always the nourishment of culture. As for my emolument at the Teatro di Roma – a great scandal that always and punctually attracts people – it corresponds to that of my colleagues at the national theatres, successors or non-successors, picaresque or otherwise, according to the Spanish cultural tradition to which I am kindly approached . Thank you Director, I expect more compliments and, if it ever happens, I will also go to Paris for Italian culture, perhaps and despite my curriculum vitae.
