«Panzeri could involve other Italian MEPs»- Corriere.it

BRUSSELS – “They are only hypotheses, I have no element of knowledge” on what Antonio Panzeri will declare to the Belgian judiciary.

Michalis Dimitrakopoulos seems almost amazed that what in his intentions should have been a hypothetical, even sarcastic statement to a Greek TV, can be interpreted as the anticipation of revelations that the former MEP of Pd and of Article one locked up in prison in Brussels it would do by involving Italian, German, French and Belgian MEPs. Interviewed by the broadcaster Contrawhen asked about the countries of origin of the political figures who could be involved in the investigation into alleged corruption in the European Parliament, the lawyer replied: «Italy and France, I don’t know if Greece too. It depends on how the magistrates can use his statements ». He “is now completely unreliable and all he cares about is saving his wife and daughter and whatever they give him, he will sign.”

In the same interview, as reported by some news agencies, Dimitrakopoulos added that «messages and news arrive» and he will make “new names of Italian, German, Belgian and French MEPs”.

Contacted by Corriere della SeraHowever, the lawyer explains his statements in a very different way. «I don’t want to be misunderstood: I said that Panzeri is an unreliable witness and that in his attempt to save his wife, daughter and himself he will sign whatever he is asked to sign. He could involve Belgian, German, French, etc. political figures. It’s all hypothetical, I have no knowledge of what he will say».
