Lega lawyer Matteo Brigandì acquitted on appeal: “Bossi and Salvini had recognized his credit as legitimate”

“No harm had been done to the League, as the institutional leaders of the party, in particular Bossi and Salvini, had recognized the reasons for Brigandì’s credit, denied only by Maroni in the short period in which he had held the position of secretary, breaking in the organization of the party and coming into conflict with the Brigandì”. The Court of Appeal of Milan writes it in the reasons for the sentence with which last October it acquitted with full formula, overturning the first instance verdict, the former ‘historic’ lawyer of the Carroccio and of the founder Umberto Bossi who ended up on trial for legal aid infidel and self-laundering.

According to the second instance judges, “the preliminary findings, thus re-evaluated, fundamentally allow for an alternative reconstruction to the accusatory one” on the basis of which Matteo Brigandì, when he was a lawyer for the League, would have made himself “unfaithful to his professional duties”, by omitting “to report his conflict of interest” in relation to an injunction, issued in 2004 and then executed in 2012 and requested by him, thus collecting almost 1.9 million euros in fees for his activity. According to the indictment, he also transferred “the sum of 1.67 million” to a bank account in Tunisia.

Reconstruction not shared by the Court which speaks of the “correctness of the work” of Brigandì who actually boasted a credit “against the League for compensation accrued in the years 1996-1999”. Furthermore, he “had notified” the party “of the injunction and, therefore, put the debtor in a position to propose an opposition”.
With the acquittal with the full formula, the first degree provisional compensation was revoked, in addition to the seizures ordered for the same amount.
