Palazzo Chigi attacks on the Santanchè and Delmastro cases: “Magistrates oppose”. Schlein: “Unacceptable tones”

A frontal attack on Palazzo Chigi ignites the clash between politics and the judiciary, in the midst of the crisis linked to the investigations into the minister Daniela Santanche and on the undersecretary Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove. It is an unsigned note, attributed to sources inside the government headquarters, that triggered the controversy: “It is legitimate to wonder whether a section of the judiciary has chosen to play an active opposition role”, reads the text. And immediately the harsh reactions of the opposition arrive: the attack on the magistrates is “absolutely unacceptable”, says the dem secretary Elly Schlein.

The lunge from Chigi

It was just after 6 pm when the press agencies relaunched the text attributed to “sources of Palazzo Chigi”. The note starts from the Delmastro case and the decision of the forced indictment. In a trial, the text comments, “it is not usual for the public party to ask for it to be dismissed” and the investigating magistrate “impose that the proceedings begin”. Then the reference to the Santanchè affair: “In a proceeding in which the documents are secreted it is illegal for it to learn of being investigated by the newspapers, curiously” on the day of the information in Parliament, “after having requested information from the judicial authority”.

Hence the lunge against the robes: “When this affects two government officials”, reads the communication sent by the Palace, it is “legitimate to ask whether a section of the judiciary has chosen to play an active opposition role. to launch the electoral campaign for the European elections early”.

The reaction of the opposition

Tones that Elly Schlein deems “unacceptable in a democratic system”: “Instead of responding to the serious allegations on the merits”, says the dem secretary, Palazzo Chigi fuels “a dangerous clash between state powers by spreading an intimidating note towards the judiciary” . At this point, she adds, “it is inevitable that the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni come out of your silence and assume your responsibilities. They’ve gone too far and it can’t go on like this.”

Henry Costa, deputy secretary and deputy for Action, claims that “such serious acts cannot be confined to an anonymous statement from unspecified sources”: “If Palazzo Chigi has elements to support that certain judicial initiatives or the leak of confidential information are on one side of the judiciary in with political purposes, must be consequent and formalize a complaint. Otherwise theirs is an unfounded nonsense without foundation”. And from the M5S, the group leader in the Senate Maurice Patuanelli he contests: “The judiciary is accused of doing politics, the real problem is that this majority who don’t know how to do politics, governed if they are capable”.

The leader of the Italian Left, Nicola Fratoianni, contests the use of anonymity, “especially if you are the Presidency of the Council of Ministers”. “And then – he adds – they could avoid involving the institutions in the political confrontation or in spreading tissue papers. They have decided to inaugurate a new Stefani Agency”. Instead, the premier Meloni, deputy of the Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra, accuses Angelo Bonelli: “He took over the baton of the language of Silvio Berlusconi”.
