The Senate Elections Board, which met today, acknowledged the death of Senator Silvio Berlusconi. Consequently, the seat of the Knight in Palazzo Madama remained vacant. This is the formal preparatory step for communication to the Interior Ministry. From receipt of the communication from the Giunta, the Viminale has 90 days to call the supplementary elections in the Lombardy 06 constituency (Monza-Brianza) where Berlusconi was elected but, since the 90 days fall in the summer period, the law provides possible extensions and therefore a slight postponement of the times.
In the elections last September Berlusconi was the winner in the single-member constituency Monza-Brianza with 50.3% of the votes, clearly detaching the centre-left candidate Federica Perelli (27%).
