Natality, the proposal of the Meloni government: no taxes for those who have children. It’s possible?

“No taxes for those who have children.” According to reports from Il Foglio, this would be the government’s idea contained in a dossier by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti. Giorgetti’s proposal – according to some sources – would be to present a family bonus designed for parents with children within the year. Of course, it still remains to be seen whether, in the broadest sense, “no taxes” means all or just some. It seems according to well-informed people that the reform would concern families made up of at least two children. In the short term, as Giorgetti himself wrote in the Def, Foglio resumes, “the best way to reduce the debt/GDP ratio can only be to increase the flow of immigrants who arrive and stay”. In the long term, on the other hand, “to encourage the birth rate, Giorgetti continues, the strongest lever can only be another: to propose not simple relief to families but reductions in the number of taxes to be paid”. “It is possible – we still read – that the executive will be pointed out that the only country in Europe to have already studied a similar rule is Viktor Orbán’s Hungary, which since 2020 has offered the possibility to women with four or more children to pay no more income tax.
